The Best Food I’ve Had From The Places I’ve Traveled

I have been so lucky to have been able to travel to some very cool places throughout my life. However, I was a super picky eater until about a year or two ago (I’ve come a long way since then). So, I didn’t appreciate all of these places in their full capacity. Still, I’ve eaten some really great food in some really fascinating places. I’ve already posted about the great food in Boston, here’s the rest.

Food From Rouen, FranceFrench Food Macarons

I traveled to France in the summer of 2015 with my high school French class. Here, I ate some of the BEST food I’ve ever had. In the first picture above is the second best steak I’ve ever eaten, (I’ll post the best steak later). The second is an escargot salad. I was skeptical about eating snails, but they were delicious. They tasted like garlic butter! Third is just a smoked salmon pasta, which we got from a small town on the water. Nothing special that you couldn’t get in The States, but still great. And finally, the macarons. Normally, I am not a huge fan of sweets in general, and I don’t typically like meringue-like desserts. However, the Ladurée in Paris has some of the best macarons. The Ladurée has other locations in large American cities, so definitely stop in if you are near one.

Las Vegas

Bone Marrow Flan
Food From CUT Las Vegas
American Wagyu Ribeye, medium rare

THIS is the best steak I have ever had. I was able to go to Las Vegas, NV this spring with my mother to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards. These photos are from Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant, CUT. You may be asking yourself, “What in the world is that first picture? Why does it look like two bones on a plate?” Well, that’s because it is two bones on a plate. The Bone Marrow Flan appetizer is probably the richest thing I have ever eaten. With a taste and texture similar to a very high-quality butter, it almost needs to be eaten with the mushroom purée to balance the flavor. I thought it was fantastic; my mother was a bit hesitant to try it. Although it looks small, that amount is plenty for one person.

Now, about this steak. If you are a big fan of excellent steak with fat marbling all throughout, I have two words for you – Wagyu. Beef. From a quick Google search, I found that you can order just two 16oz Japanese Wagyu Ribeyes for almost three hundred dollars. But, just look at that steak-

These cows probably have a better life than most of the world’s children. Anyways, we didn’t get the Japanese Wagyu because we just couldn’t imagine spending an outrageous amount of money on a steak we had never even had. So, we “settled” for the American Wagyu Ribeye. Knowing how good this was, I can only imagine the Japanese version. Moral of the story, if you are ever in a situation where you can get American or Japanese Wagyu- get it.

New York City

“New York, New York. The city so nice, they named it twice. Manhattan is the other name.” – Michael Scott, The Office.

New York City is definitely near the top of my list of favorite cities in the world. Each time you go, you can have an entirely different experience. The city is known for so many things, but the food scene is what keeps people like me coming back. Here are some popular restaurants in the city

Tavern on the Green

This famous NYC restaurant is located in Central Park and is known to frequent celebrity guests. It is somewhat difficult to get into, but it wasn’t an issue for a very early 5 o’clock dinner.

21 Club

Another famous, Old New York restaurant that is known for the celebrities who have dined here. Including Jay-Z, nearly every President since its opening, and, most importantly, Carrie Bradshaw in season 6, episode 8 of SATC. I had a lobster and crab ravioli, and the Baked Alaska we shared for desert.

Olio e Piu

I found this restaurant from a picture on Instagram of their Spaghetti Carbonara, which is my favorite pasta dish. Olio e Piu is in the Greenwich Village/West Village area. We had reservations but did not need them. It is a small, intimate, authentic Italian restaurant. My biggest pet peeve is when I order a Pasta Carbonara, and I get Alfredo sauce with bacon. I was so happy to get real Carbonara made with fresh pasta, pancetta, parmesan, and eggs.

The BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman

The BG Restaurant is on the top floor of the luxury department store on Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman. It is one of my favorite shopping places, because you can walk around for hours on end and find some really cool things. Along the walls of their top floor, they have dozens of pictures of celebrities at BG from the 1900’s to now. Bergdorf Goodman has seen Elizabeth Taylor custom order 200 pairs of white mink earmuffs, and John Lennon and Yoko Ono spend $400,000 on furs. BG is also apparently responsible for Michael Kors’ career. Even without dining here, you’ll find plenty to do in the 190,000 square foot store. The food was, of course, delicious. I’m the kind of person who gets very excited over a perfect sear on a scallop. So, I was very pleased.

My aunt lives in the suburbs of Chicago, so we don’t go into the city as much when we visit. Last time we went, we did spend a day in the Windy City.

As I’ve already mentioned, Eataly is the best place in the world. It’s like a mall for Italian food! We stopped here in Chicago , and I got Arancini- or Fried Risotto Balls. If you’ve had risotto, you know how delicious this would be. If you haven’t, I am so sorry for you. (I’ll show how to make it later).

Located adjacent to the world’s largest Polo store, the Chicago Flagship on Michigan Avenue, RL Restaurant represents Ralph Lauren’s debut into the restaurant industry. Opened in 1999, the restaurant features the vision and décor of Ralph Lauren and modern city-club cuisine.

Delicious food and excellent service. A must in the Windy City. I had a steak with a butter sauce and had cheesecake for dessert.

As you can see, I have been able to go to some great places so far, but I hope to go to much more! I hope you enjoyed this. Comment below, I’d love to hear what some of your favorite places are!
